The project: sustainable and profitable

The new Central Switzerland waste incineration plant entered operation in Perlen in the Community of Root/CH at the beginning of 2015. 200,000 tonnes of waste will be processed every year by “Renergia Zentralschweiz AG”, founded by Perlen Papier AG and one of eight Central Swiss waste industry associations, using the most-modern thermal technology available.

The plant will produce 155,000 MWh of electricity for 38,000 households, as well as district heating and process steam for the nearby paper factory.
This sustainable approach will reduce CO2 emissions in the paper factory alone by around 90,000 tonnes per year.

Rudolf Berthold Ges.m.b.H involved through BLS logistics control system

In this CHF 320 million project, Rudolf Berthold Ges.m.b.H. was selected as the best provider for the complete logistics system with its BLS logistics control system.

During the selection process, we were able to impress, among many aspects, with excellent reference projects, also in Switzerland, and, as a result, provide the best guarantees for successful and competent realisation of the project.

Through this project, Rudolf Berthold Ges.m.b.H. has delivered the first BLS logistics control system to Switzerland and is now responsible for the capturing, processing and recording of all incoming and outgoing goods with its delivery data for the power plant, as well as invoicing and transfer of data to the financial accounting system.

The BLS logistics control system is a turnkey holistic system known for its cross-process operation capabilities. Our scope of delivery therefore included installation, integration and start-up, in addition to fully-developed and fail-safe components:

  • Engineering
  • Access control and identification
  • Self-service terminals
  • Weighing stations
  • Traffic control system with rooting
  • A complete hardware and software system
  • High-speed bunker doors
  • Numerous interfaces to other systems

The turnkey holistic system entered operation at the beginning of 2015

Following an extensive test phase of the entire incineration plant, full operation started with regular deliveries of waste on 5th January 2015.

In this complex start-up phase, the Renergia employees, who had already been fully trained by our expert staff, were accompanied by BLS support technicians to ensure, that rapid assistance was available if required.

The moment, we had all been waiting for, came on 7th January when the incinerator was lit for the first time.
The waste was ignited manually using a torch, the boiler door was closed and the incinerator plant began operation.

Within a few days, the BLS logistics control system was able to show its strengths in operation and the official final inspection and handover of the BLS system to a satisfied customer took place on 12th January 2015.

A successful cooperation

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Renergia Zentralschweiz AG, as well as Ramboll, general planners and expert planners for “delivery logistics”, for this open and successful cooperation.
We have succeeded in establishing a project partnership which not only enabled successful cooperation but also resulted in the highest-possible quality in planning and realisation of the project.

This deep-rooted partnership provides an excellent basis for the secure and trouble-free operation of the plant.

Backstage: Project with Berthold internal ISO 2008 support

As part of our continuous commitment to increasing efficiency at Rudolf Berthold Ges.m.b.H., this project was also accompanied by an internal quality control team.

The aim of this measure was primarily to ensure continuous optimisation of internal project processes, as well as interfaces to future end users. The activities of the project quality control team had a positive influence on the overall realisation of the project.

This has produced noticeable advantages for our customers:
Our quality management system is a living process and is continuously refined and developed.
Future BLS projects can now be carried out more efficiently, meaning faster, with fewer problems and at a lower cost whilst guaranteeing maximum flexibility.
